Course Description

The Crisis Management and Human Behavior Training is a high-level management course designed for Masters, Chief Officers, Chief Engineers, Second Engineers, and any person having responsibility for the safety of passengers in emergency situations. While crowd management focuses on the immediate control of people, Crisis Management focuses on the strategic leadership and decision-making required to manage the entire shipboard emergency organization. Approved by the DGS and strictly adhering to STCW Regulation V/2, this course is essential for senior officers who must coordinate complex responses involving fire, flooding, or vessel abandonment while simultaneously managing the psychological state of thousands of passengers and crew. The curriculum is academically and practically demanding, focusing on the "Human Element" in high-stress environments. Trainees learn about the science of stress and how it affects leadership, memory, and decision-making. The course covers the development and implementation of emergency plans, the optimization of resources, and the importance of maintaining situational awareness when faced with conflicting information. A significant focus is placed on "Command and Control," teaching senior officers how to lead effectively, delegate tasks, and maintain a calm "command presence" that inspires confidence in the crew and passengers alike. The program also addresses the legal and moral responsibilities of the Master and senior officers during and after a maritime disaster. Successfully completing this course is a definitive mark of professional maturity and senior command capability. It is a mandatory requirement for senior ranks on all passenger and ro-ro vessels. This qualification provides the strategic framework needed to handle the most extreme maritime scenarios with professional poise. By mastering crisis management and the nuances of human behavior, senior maritime officers ensure that the global passenger fleet remains a safe and trusted mode of international travel.
