Course Description

The Revalidation Training Course for Masters and Deck Officers (RUT) is a mandatory 4-day competency program designed for all nautical officers—from Second Mates to Masters—seeking to renew their Certificate of Competency (CoC) every five years. Regulated by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), India, and strictly aligned with STCW Regulation I/11, this course ensures that senior bridge officers remain at the cutting edge of the maritime industry’s evolving legal and technical framework. In an era defined by rapid digital transformation and complex environmental mandates, the RUT course serves as the vital link between historical experience and future-ready maritime leadership. The 2025 curriculum has been significantly updated to address contemporary industry challenges. Beyond core updates to SOLAS, MARPOL, and the STCW Code, the course now integrates mandatory training on the "Human Element." As per DGS Circular 53 of 2025, the program includes dedicated modules on Gender Sensitization and the Prevention of and Response to Violence and Harassment (including bullying and sexual assault). Technical sessions focus on modern "Smart Shipping" protocols, including Cyber Security standards, Port State Control (PSC) trends, and the latest casualty investigations. Through case studies and group tasks, officers analyze real-world maritime disasters to foster a proactive safety culture and enhance strategic decision-making. Successfully completing the RUT course is the primary prerequisite for submitting a CoC revalidation application to the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD). It signifies that the officer is not only legally current but also professionally equipped to command the global fleet with integrity and precision. By mastering this integrated syllabus, Indian deck officers uphold their reputation as elite maritime professionals, ensuring the continued safety of life at sea and the protection of the marine environment across international trade routes.
